Lifelong Learning for Adults with Disability

Postschool
From adult minding to adult learning

For a young person with disability, leaving school should be the start of the next stage of their learning, not the end of learning altogether.

Yet the reality for many adults with disability is that opportunities to learn all but disappear once formal schooling ends. Programs are frequently built around recreation and community access, staffed by workers who care deeply but who have rarely been taught strategies to support a person with disability to learn.

We think that is a missed opportunity, and a solvable one.

Our approach

Beyond Boundaries treats adult life as a place where learning continues, with the same expectations we all have for learning as adults.

Specialist educator-led learning.

Individual Learning Plans designed and led by specialist educators, not left to chance.

Whole-of-person goals. Mapped across life domains, that guide

NDIS plan goals and allied health goals, together inside one coherent learning plan.

Learning embedded in real life.

Skills built where they are used, in independent living, work and community settings, so they last.

A workforce equipped to teach.

Professional development that helps disability support workers move from supervising activities to supporting genuine learning.

Specialist education drives the teaching, the progression and, crucially, the maintenance of skills over time.

Who this is for

This work matters for adults with disability and their families who want more than a place to spend the day. It matters to providers and support workers who want to do more and need the training and frameworks to do it well. And it matters for a sector that has long lacked a clear, evidence-based model for learning.

Beyond Boundaries is building that model and sharing what we learn.
